]]>The Dayabumi Complex was completed in 1983 and it was a controversial expensive mega project at that time which automatically gained a new Kuala Lumpur landmark status then. It was also the first modern building in Malaysia whose architecture was loosely influenced by Islamic and moorish architecture.

It was designed purposely so to blend in with the pervading Moorish and Byzantine atmosphere of the structures that surround it namely The Sultan Abdul Samad Building and the Railway Station Building. The complex houses a shopping arcade, City Point, offices and the General Post Office.

]]>This beautiful mosque was designed by AB Hubback, the same architect who designed several other buildings in Kuala Lumpur and elsewhere in Malaysia including the old Kuala Lumpur Railway Station. The money to build it was raised by subscription from the Malay community and Government funds. The mosque was constructed on the site of the first Malay cemetery in Kuala Lumpur.

The Sultan of Selangor officially opened Masjid Jamek on 23 December 1909. In attendance is the Resident of Selangor, HC Belfield, and other Government officials. AB Hubback created a design inspired by the Mughal mosque architecture of northern India, such as the Jama Masjid of Delhi.

Cupolas and minarets top the brick walls and arched colonnades of Masjid Jamek. The prayer hall is surmounted by three domes. The central dome is 21m (70 ft) high. The prayer hall opens out into a walled sahn or courtyard which is now covered over. At the corners are two red-and-white striped minarets which are 26.8m (88 ft) high. The design of Masjid Jamek is repeated on another magnificent creation of AB Hubback, the Ubudiah Mosque of Kuala Kangsar.

Masjid Jamek was the principal mosque for Kuala Lumpur's Muslim community until 1965, when Masjid Negara took over that role.

]]>The TM Tower or in Bahasa Malaysia it's called Menara TM is the headquarters of Telekom Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur.

It is 310m (1,017ft) high, has 55 floors, and is shaped to represent a sprouting "bamboo shoot". It is located along the Federal Highway, Sprint Expressway and Jalan Pantai Baru and is served by the Rapid KL Kerinchi LRT station. It was designed by Hijjas Kasturi Associates and was constructed between 1998 and 2001 by PECD Berhad.

The complex also includes a theatre able to seat a 2,500 audience, a large prayer hall (surau) and a sports facility. A unique feature of the tower is its 22 open skygardens alternating every three floors. The office floors are separated into north and south wings served by express double-deck elevators.

What is interesting about this intelligent building is its asymmetrical design which also means you will get a unique shot from any different angle.

]]>The Sultan Abdul Samad Building is the most prominent classic landmark of Kuala Lumpur. It was the best known symbol of Malaysia until the Petronas Towers were built and still today one of the most photographed buildings in Malaysia. Built between 1894 and 1897 it was designed by A.C. Norman and R.A.J. Bidwell in Mogul architectural style and features copper domes and a 40m high clock tower. The building was named after the then Sultan of Selangor and over its lifetime it has served as government offices and as a High Court and Supreme Court. Today, like its neighbouring buildings, it is occupied by the Ministry of Information, Communications and Culture. While the architectural style is not particularly Malaysian and would look more at home in India, it has come to symbolize Malaysia and has played an important role in the country's history.

Although the British Colonial Masters have long gone more than 54 years ago from Malaya the structure and the buildings still remain for many years to come as part of the history as well as the living proof for the newer generations to see, learn and study.

]]>Located at the corner of Jalan Tun Perak and Jalan Melaka, this beautiful Art Deco building was designed by AO Coltman in the 1930s. Rusticated arches of the ground floor arcade follow the original curve of the road. The front façade has a central panel flanked by two tower-like pylons. Framing the panel is an exceptional white stucco frieze of interlocking disks.

Alternating vertical bands of rendered wall with elegant motifs divide the panel Originally called the Oriental Building, it housed Radio Malaya when first built. The building is an example of the links between the innovations of broadcasting and the style of Art Deco. From afar, the building resembles the early radio designs of that period.

]]>This elegant and historic Mogul style building is currently occupied by the National Textile Museum. Originally built in 1896 whose architecture was designed by A.B. Hubback to house the headquarters of the Federated Malay States Railways. It was later used by various government departments before being refurbished as a museum in 2007.

]]>The Petronas Twin Towers are the landmark of Kuala Lumpur in particular and of Malaysia in general. The Petronas Towers were the tallest buildings in the world for six years, until Taipei 101 was completed in 2004. The Petronas Towers still remain the tallest twin buildings in the world. The Petronas Towers and the Kuala Lumpur Tower dominate the skyline of Kuala Lumpur's Central Business District.
